"The new S-Class looks sleekly poised and is less of a heavyweight than the older model, though it has retained its imposing identity and prestige presence. While its predecessor hinted at Eighties values, this S-Class is more relevant to the next century of motoring, showcasing Mercedes' latest technological developments. With Active Body Control as well as handling being sharpened up so much so, that the old car feels stodgy by comparison. S-Class has shed some pounds in weight and has been revitalised and almost reinvented in the process. Enthusiastic drivers may still prefer the leaner and sportier-looking BMW 7-Series or the new Audi A8, but this is more mature relaxed drive than muc of the competition."
